THE RIGHT SUPPORT FOR YOUR ACTUAL LIFE
Mental Health Programs in Orange County
Laguna Therapy Center offers three levels of mental health care: Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and Outpatient therapy. None of them assume you’re a category. Your plan is built around your actual week: the job you’re not walking away from, the kids who still need picking up, the drive in from wherever in Orange County you’re coming from.
We treat depression, anxiety, PTSD and trauma, bipolar disorder, ADHD, borderline personality disorder, and grief, sizing the amount of support to what you’re actually carrying, not the other way around.

A STARTING POINT BUILT AROUND YOU
How We Decide What Level of Care Is Right for You
The right starting point isn’t about how “bad” things are. It’s about how much support your daily life can absorb right now. The continuum-of-care model, recognized by SAMHSA, categorizes behavioral health support across a spectrum, from early promotion and prevention through active treatment and recovery, and that’s the same logic we build every plan around. A busy attorney managing panic attacks between depositions needs something different than a parent who hasn’t left the house in three weeks. Neither is more “sick.” They just need different amounts of structure.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
The most structured level of outpatient care we offer: full days of therapy, several days a week, without an overnight stay. Built for when symptoms are loud enough that once-a-week therapy isn’t going to cut it, but you don’t need (or want) to be admitted anywhere.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Fewer hours, fewer days, real structure. IOP is built for people actively living their lives (going to work, raising kids, running a business) who need consistent clinical support they can build a schedule around, not the other way around.
Outpatient Therapy
Weekly or biweekly sessions for ongoing support, whether you’re stepping down from IOP or starting here because that’s genuinely the right entry point for you.
SUPPORT BEYOND THE THERAPY ROOM
How Integrative Care Fits Into Each Program
The clinical work happens in the room. But some of it doesn’t. It happens on a hiking trail above the coastline, or in an equine or art-based activity built into your week as an adjunct to therapy, not a substitute for it. Laguna Beach’s light, quiet, and slower pace aren’t scenery here. They’re a variable we designed the program around, the same way we designed session length or group size. You’re still doing the real work. You’re just not doing it under fluorescent lights.
COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS
FAQ
Clear answers to some of the questions we hear most often. Don't see what you're looking for? Give us a call — our team is happy to help.
What’s the difference between PHP and IOP?
PHP involves more hours per day and more days per week. It’s the most structured level of outpatient care. IOP is a lighter, more flexible commitment designed to fit around work, school, or family responsibilities.
Can I go straight into IOP or outpatient without starting at PHP?
Yes. Your starting level is based on a clinical assessment of what you need right now, not a fixed sequence everyone has to follow.
How do I know if I need PHP, IOP, or outpatient therapy?
It depends on how much daily structure and clinical support your current symptoms require. A brief clinical assessment with our team will identify the right starting point.
Do programs change over time as I improve?
Yes. Treatment is designed to step up or down based on your progress. Moving to a less intensive level is a sign of progress, not an ending.
