UNDERSTANDING WHAT YOU’RE EXPERIENCING

Mental Health Conditions We Treat in Orange County

Most people don’t wake up one day and decide to seek treatment. It’s usually smaller than that: a panic attack in a parking lot, a diagnosis that finally has a name, a grief that hasn’t loosened its grip after the timeline everyone expected. Laguna Therapy Center treats the conditions that actually bring people through the door: depression, anxiety and panic disorders, PTSD and trauma, bipolar disorder, ADHD, borderline personality disorder, grief, and co-occurring conditions that don’t show up neatly on their own.

MORE COMMON THAN YOU MIGHT THINK

How Common Is Mental Illness?

More than one in five U.S. adults (an estimated 59.3 million people) live with a diagnosable mental illness in any given year. That number holds up in Laguna Beach and everywhere around it: attorneys, surfers, stay-at-home parents, retirees, gallery owners. The condition doesn’t discriminate by zip code, income, or how well someone’s life looks from the outside.

YOU’RE NOT ALONE IN SEEKING SUPPORT

How Many Adults Get Mental Health Treatment?

Of the adults living with a mental illness in the U.S., just over half received any form of treatment in the past year. If you’ve been managing something alone for longer than you’d like to admit, you’re not unusual. You’re most people. The harder, more useful question isn’t “why did it take me this long,” it’s “what happens now that I’m here.”

START WITH WHAT YOU’RE FEELING

You Don’t Need a Diagnosis to Start

A lot of people delay treatment because they’re not sure what’s “wrong” enough to justify it. That’s backwards. A clinical assessment is how you find out what you’re dealing with. It’s not a prerequisite for taking it seriously. If you’re not sure which condition below fits what you’re experiencing, that uncertainty is a normal, expected part of showing up, not a barrier to it.

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS

FAQ

Clear answers to some of the questions we hear most often. Don't see what you're looking for? Give us a call — our team is happy to help.

How common is mental illness, really?

More than one in five U.S. adults experience a diagnosable mental illness in a given year, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. It’s far more common than most people assume.

What if I’m not sure which condition applies to me?

That’s normal. A clinical assessment is designed to help identify what you’re experiencing, not something you need to figure out beforehand.

Can I be treated for more than one condition at the same time?

Yes. Many people come in with overlapping symptoms (anxiety and depression together, for example), and treatment is built around the full picture, not one diagnosis in isolation.

How is treatment for each condition different?

While core programs (PHP, IOP, outpatient) provide the structure, the therapeutic focus and modalities used are tailored to the specific condition and how it shows up for you.
